We’re all feeling a little uneasy about the current global crisis, but some of us will be coping with it a little bit better than others. The reality is, everyone responds differently in situations like this, so there’s no way of knowing what it’s going to be like for everyone.
If you’re someone who suffers from anxiety in regular life, then this might be exacerbated right now. However, it doesn’t have to become unbearable. Let’s take a look at how to manage your anxiety during the lockdown so that you can take better care of yourself in general.
1. Limit Unnecessary News
If you spend a lot of your time scrolling through your feed on Facebook and Instagram, then there’s a good chance that you see a lot of coronavirus-related news pop up. While a very small percentage of it is positive, the vast majority of news articles you see are going to be negative.
This means that they more than likely trigger your anxiety and make it even worse. If you want to try and stay as calm as possible during the lockdown, try to limit your exposure to social media, the news, and the media in general.
2. Do What You Can At Home
While we’re all restricted as to where we can go right now anyway, there might be a couple of errands you still have to run that you might not think is possible to get done from home. For example, you might have made a doctor’s appointment before all this happened and wanted to see it through.
Now, however, you’re anxious to go to the doctor because of the current situation. If you need a check-up with your doctor, but you’re too anxious to leave the house for it, consider an at-home STD test. This is a great, discreet way to get that check-up out of the way, without even having to leave home for it.
3. Be As Present As Possible
One way to keep the anxiety at bay is to try and stay in the present as much as possible. One thing that might be fueling your anxiety is thoughts of the future, and what that may look like.
The reality is, none of us know what the future holds beyond the current pandemic. However, we do know that we can be present in the moment right now, and worry about the future when it comes. Try to focus your thoughts to keep you in the present, so that you can stay calm and not worry about things that haven’t even come to pass yet.
4. Take Care Of Your Body
We all know that our physical and mental health is interconnected. This means that the more we take care of our bodies, the easier it will be to control our state of mind.
Make sure that you’re getting exercise every day right now, and getting enough sleep. While this might not get rid of your anxiety completely, it can definitely help.
The lockdown is an anxious time for everyone, and the longer it goes on, the harder it is to cope. However, if you surround yourself with the right resources, you’ve got a good chance of reducing your anxiety.
